The artist project Aponte: An Opera has been awarded a 2022 Creative Capital Award. Aponte: An Opera is the creation of visual artist Teresita Fernández, Professor Bárbaro Martínez-Ruiz, and historian Ada Ferrer. The creative team also includes composer Yosvany Terry, art history Ph.D. student and librettist Jessica Lanay, and artist and librettist Ian Askew.
