Our department offers several scholarships and awards to support outstanding students.
The Grafton D. Trout Scholarship is an annual award given to Art History majors to support enrollment in a summer study abroad program. Applicants are judged by a committee of faculty members.
Information needed to apply:
- Overall GPA
- A personal statement (750 words max.)
- Name and email address of a faculty member willing to endorse your application
The Grafton D. Trout Essay Prize is an annual prize and honorarium awarded to the undergraduate writer of the best art historical paper written for a course at Indiana University. All currently enrolled students, regardless of major, are welcome to apply. Essays are judged by a committee of faculty members.
Information needed to apply:
- A copy of your best paper with the name and course number of the class associated with the paper
The Summer Professional Development Award is an annual prize awarded to an Art History major to support participation in a summer internship program. Applicants are judged by a committee of faculty members. (Note: Applications for this award will be accepted even if the internship organizer has not yet officially confirmed the internship.)
Information needed to apply:
- Overall GPA
- A personal statement (750 words max.)
- One recommendation letter from a faculty member emailed directly from that professor.
The Robert E. Burke Award is given annually to one member of the graduating class who has completed all of the requirements for a major in art history. Recipients of the award will have maintained a high standard of scholarship and character during their undergraduate career. Faculty members in the Art History department nominate candidates, and the recipient is determined by faculty vote.
