A painter myself, I’ve always loved learning not only studio skills but also the role of art in its historical context. My specific interest in Native American art is driven by my own background as a member of the Miami Nation of Indiana as well as my museum experience: I recently volunteered with the Eiteljorg’s collections department, where I was surrounded by modern and contemporary Indigenous art throughout the summer. After graduating, I held the position of Efroymson Fellow in Art History at DePauw University. There, I continued to pursue research in Native art, served as a teaching assistant, and organized departmental events. The welcoming atmosphere and interdisciplinary nature of Indiana University’s Department of Art History attracted me to the program, and I’m looking forward to learning from the amazing Art History faculty while also pursuing my interests in Native American and Indigenous Studies and American Studies.
