Dr. Faye Gleisser receives promotion to Associate Professor of Contemporary Art and Critical Theory

Tuesday, April 25, 2023

Dr. Faye Gleisser Anna Powell Denton

The Department of Art History is pleased to announce that Professor Faye Gleisser has been awarded tenure and promotion to Associate Professor of Contemporary Art and Critical Theory, beginning in July 2023. In her first book, Risk Work: Making Art and Guerrilla Tactics in Punitive America, 1967-1987, forthcoming with the University of Chicago Press in September, Dr. Gleisser reveals and recasts the complex relationship between artists' deployments of guerrilla tactics, state power, and policing in North America through close analyses of conceptual and performance art vis-a-vis photographic archives, criminal code reform, and emergent surveillance technologies. In the 2023-24 academic year, Professor Gleisser will conduct a research project utilizing the IU Kinsey Institute’s archives as part of a College of Arts and Humanities Institute (CAHI)/Kinsey Institute Fellowship.
